Wrap Tunic / Runa (Celtic Shawl)

  • Time: ~1.5–2 h
  • Cost: £
  • Difficulty: Easy

Materials & tools

  • 2–3 m linen-look/cotton
  • Cotton tape for ties
  • Thread; iron

1) Wrap Tunic / Runa

Wrap Tunic / Runa (Celtic Shawl) Left: back rectangle with a shallow half neckhole and two overlapping fronts for a tunic-length wrap. Right: one-piece option cut from a single rectangle with a circular neck opening and a front slit (runa / Celtic shawl). Back Half neckhole Front A Front B Inner & outer ties One-piece Runa / Celtic Shawl Option Single rectangle of fabric with a round neck opening set in from the edge and a straight slit down the front. One-piece runa / Celtic shawl
Tunic version: back + two fronts with a small half neckhole at the back for comfort. One-piece option: runa / Celtic shawl cut from a single rectangle with a neck circle and front slit.

Process

  1. 1. Decide length. For a tunic, cut 1 back rectangle and 2 narrower front rectangles. For a simple runa/Celtic shawl, cut one long rectangle (see SVG).
  2. 2. Mark the centre neckline. Cut a small, shallow half neckhole at the back and a matching front half where the slit will open, so together they make a full circle that fits your head; start small and test.
  3. 3. Hem the neck opening and front edges. Add an inner tie to Front A and an outer tie to Front B (or a single tie/cord for the one-piece shawl).
  4. 4. For the tunic version, join shoulders, add optional sleeves, close side seams to the desired height, and hem bottom and sleeves.

Half-Circle Cloak

  • Time: ~2 h
  • Cost: ££
  • Difficulty: Easy

Materials & tools

  • 2–2.5 m wool-blend/curtain weight
  • Toggle/cord
  • Bias for edge (optional)

2) Half-Circle Cloak

Half-Circle Cloak Quarter-circle layout to cut twice; small neck radius. Neck radius ~8 cm
Quarter pattern saves fabric; join for a smooth drape.

Process

  1. 1. Cut two quarter-circles and join straight edges to form a half-circle.
  2. 2. Cut a small neck circle; test and enlarge slowly.
  3. 3. Finish edges (hem or bias); add ties/toggle at throat.

Talisman Cords

  • Time: ~20–30 min
  • Cost: £
  • Difficulty: Easy

Materials & tools

  • Cotton/jute cord
  • Wood/seed beads
  • Needle, lighter (to seal synthetic cord ends)

3) Talisman Cords

Process

  1. 1. Cut three equal cords; knot together; braid to desired length.
  2. 2. Thread beads/talismans; secure with overhand knots.
  3. 3. Seal cord ends (melt or glue) and tie onto belt/necklace.
